Amenințarea președintelui Trump cu impunerea unor taxe vamale de 200% asupra vinului european, deși neimplementată încă, a provocat deja perturbări semnificative. Importatorii americani au suspendat comenzile, ducând la blocarea exporturilor de vinuri italiene, în special din regiunea Toscana. Această situație afectează negativ cramele locale și pune în pericol o piață de export vitală pentru Italia, evaluată la aproximativ 2 miliarde de dolari anual.

În Toscana, cea mai faimoasă regiune exportatoare de vin a Italiei, mii de sticle destinate meselor americane sunt blocate în pivnițele răcoroase ale cramelor sau în depozite din Livorno, orașul portuar de unde urmau să plece.
„Totul este oprit”, a declarat Tiziana Mazzetti, managerul de vânzări și marketing al Cramei Vechi (Old Cellar), o cramă din orașul toscan Montepulciano, stând printre cutiile cu sticle de vin care ar fi trebuit să plece luna aceasta spre Statele Unite. „Paguba este deja aici.”
Până acum, amenințarea domnului Trump rămâne doar atât. Dar a fost suficient pentru ca importatorii americani neliniștiți să întrerupă comenzile, în loc să plătească potențial taxe vamale care ar putea face vinul inaccesibil pentru unii și pur și simplu nerentabil pentru alții. Dacă tarifele ar fi impuse – și transferate integral consumatorilor – o sticlă de 20 de dolari ar costa brusc 60 de dolari.

Împreună cu Franța și Spania, Italia se numără printre cele mai expuse țări din Europa la taxele vamale americane pe vin, iar mulți spun că o taxă de 200% ar fi devastatoare. De aproape 15 ani, Statele Unite au fost cea mai mare piață de export pentru vinurile Italiei.
